Tim Smith’s News-Leader article

It’s good to know that our community leaders support local clean water efforts. A case in point is Tim Smith, Greene County Administrator, whose great letter about protecting water resources appeared in last Saturday’s edition of the News-Leader . You can check it out by clicking HERE

Water and the Light Bulb

Based on a study by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University…..the gallons of water required to burn one 60-W incandescent light bulb for a 12 hour period is between 3,000 and 6,000 gallons. If each housing unit in the United States burned one 60-W bulb for 12 hours on every day of the year, the water used just for the 111 million light bulbs would be between 336 and 656 billion gallons.

If a compact fluorescent bulb was burned for the same amount of time, it would save about 2,000 to 4,000 gallons of water per bulb per year! Another example of the accumulative effects of individual actions! (AWWA June 2008 Journal, Industry News, pg. 140)
